Why do I need my medical records?

If you're like most people, you may have records from many differing sources, including your primary care physician, the emergency department, imaging centers, outpatient laboratories, and multiple hospitals.  Currently, there is no simple and accurate way to ensure that all of these records are assembled in one location.

Doesn't my doctor have all of my records?

Even your own primary care physician may not have all the information.  In the case of an emergency, records of your medical history, medications, allergies, and prior tests can be life-saving.  Despite continuous advances in medical care, it's an unfortunate fact that physicians and hospitals are still using outdated technology, and most are still using paper, for the creation and control of medical records.  Taking control of your own records is one way to improve this situation.

How will my records be used in an emergency?

Simply give your password-protected flash drive to the emergency department staff, along with the included emergency wallet card we supply.  Your treating physicians and nurses can then access your vital information from almost any computer, giving them important information.  Knowing your health history, physicians can determine if any changes have occurred (for example, differences on your EKG or in your kidney function that might signal serious conditions developing), avoid repeating tests that you may not need, and reduce the risk of giving you inappropriate treatment.   Recent studies have suggested that knowing your prior medical  conditions can affect your prognosis in the emergency department.  Additionally, more evidence is mounting showing the adverse affects of x-rays and CT scans.   Having your records easily accessible in case of an emergency can save your life!

Is MyMedicalHistoryOnline.com any different from other companies storing medical records online?

Yes!  Unlike other organizations, we do the work of collecting your records for you, then give you the result to keep in your possession.  Other companies (Microsoft and Google being two of the largest) are attempting to facilitate the storage of medical records on-line.  Many smaller companies offer a system that requires you to obtain all the data and upload it yourself, and then charge you maintenance fees to keep the data on their server.  In addition, other companies sometimes require physicians to be members before accessing records, and all require an active internet connection to view the records.

What makes MyMedicalHistoryOnline better than the others?

With MyMedicalHistoryOnline.com, we do the work to obtain your records and assemble them together on a password protected flash drive.  You then control your medical records and determine exactly who has access to them.  We do not store your records.

Are my medical records secure?

Yes. The transmission of your records is as secure as your on-line banking.  Your records go through a secure server with SSL encryption and are then moved to a password-protected flash drive which is mailed to you through the U.S. Mail.  Only you can read the contents using your selected password. We will include a special emergency wallet card for you to record your identifying information and password. No records are saved on our website.

How do I obtain my medical records?

Simply fill out a copy of our AUTHORIZATION FOR RELEASE OF MEDICAL RECORDS.  Print and sign the form, then fax or mail it to your healthcare provider(s). They send the requested information directly to our secure fax number, where it is converted into an electronic format for secure storage on your flash-drive.

Are there any other costs?

Hospitals may charge you for access to medical records, but usually only in cases where actual photocopies are made.  The cost for copies can be around 89 cents per page.   Your physician typically will not charge you for faxing your records.  Please check with your particular provider or hospital before making your request.

 How do I pay?

Is my privacy protected?

Yes!  We take privacy very seriously. Our privacy policy is very simple: We do not provide your information to anyone else. Period. Your order information is kept only as long as is needed for us to send you your records. We communicate with you via email only as needed to update you and confirm any questions; we will never pester you with unsolicited email. After you’ve received your records, you won’t hear from us unless you contact us first. We only need your preferred mailing address for your flash drive shipment, and do not need your phone number at all.
